Disgraceful

How long must we be subjected to more of the Blagojevich charade?

It seems there is no earthly limit to the depth of shame of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Surely there must be some quicker way than we have seen to get him out of office and out of the public spotlight.

He contends he will not resign in the face of glaring charges of bad behavior in office and he keeps waving his celebrity status in our faces. Among all his faults is the probability that he tried to sell the U.S. Senate seat vacated by President-elect Barack Obama. More and more, it becomes impossible for him to serve and he has to be removed.

He denies any wrongdoing, of course, and he egotistically contends he deserves a full public hearing to prove that he is righteous, upstanding and ethical. Then after trying to sell the Senate seat for personal profit, he selects Roland Burris to fill the Obama niche in Washington, saying, “I don’t want to hog the limelight. This is Roland Burris’ day.”

First off, how stupid is Burris even to accept the appointment? Has he no shame, either? He hasn’t a chance to do anything more than create more turmoil if he pursues the Senate post.

He is somewhat let off the hook, however, because of a joint statement by U.S. Sens. Harry Reid, D-Nev, and Dick Durbin, D-Ill. Said the two:

“This is not about Mr. Burris; it is about the integrity of a governor accused of attempting to sell this United States Senate seat. Anyone appointed by Governor Blagojevich cannot be an effective representative of the people of Illinois and, as we have said, will not be seated by the Democratic Caucus.”

Can Burris, or any other shill for Blagojevich, be dumb enough to ignore that warning? That certainty of failure?

Ouster proceedings have been instituted for the troubled governor and we are told that there is hope they can be completed by a February birthday of former President Abraham Lincoln, another Illinoisan. Aren’t there some emergency measures that can be used to rid Illinois and the nation of this festering sore sooner, like right now?

The wheels of justice are truly grinding too slowly in this charade.
