The Kansas Jayhawk Nation was crushed after KU suffered another gut-wrenching defeat in the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day, this time 15-14 at the hands of Penn State. KU blunted a Nittany Lion two-point conversion try and appeared to have won the game 14-13. But KU had 12 men on the field, PSU got a second chance and made it good. It was only KU’s second loss of the year. In 1948, KU had fallen 20-14 to Georgia Tech after a disputed fumble recovery by Tech as KU reached the goal-line and was due to score a victory.
