Veritas boys lose close one, 39-37

? The Veritas Christian boys basketball team lost, 39-37, to St. Mary’s Academy in the consolation bracket of the KCAA 2A state basketball tournament on Friday.

Jeremiah Johnson led the Eagles with nine, while John Hicks added eight.

“We came out very slow,” Veritas coach Doug Bennett said. “We had a good second half, especially defensively. We took the lead the last couple of possessions, but they finished with two free throws with five seconds left.”

Ethan Scott and Taylor Zook added six points apiece for Veritas, while Ethan Kay scored four.

Veritas (7-16) will play in the seventh-place game at 9 a.m. today against Flint Hills Christian.
