Public lands

To the editor:

The U.S. House of Representatives should approve the Omnibus Public Land Management Act, a far-reaching bill that would protect some of America’s most scenic and important landscapes. Our representatives should support this measure and oppose any changes.

The wilderness areas, rivers, heritage sites and parks that would be protected by this legislation are our nation’s natural heritage. They provide excellent opportunities to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. They should be protected for the benefit of future generations.

If the House makes any changes to the legislation, the bill will have to return to the Senate, where it will likely be stalled indefinitely. So it is essential that the House pass the bill as is, without change, to ensure that the measure is rapidly sent to the president.

The House should pass this bill quickly, and oppose any changes. This legislation is good for Kansans and good for America.
