Lawrence Catholics celebrate Ash Wednesday
Wednesday morning at Saint John's Catholic Church, 1208 Kentucky, many local Catholics filed through the line to receive ashes on Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the start of Lent for many local Christians.
The Mardi Gras parade Tuesday can mean only one thing: Ash Wednesday is just around the corner.
Dozens of local Catholics gathered at Saint John's Catholic Church, 1208 Kentucky, Wednesday morning to receive a mark of ashes, symbolizing the beginning of Lent for Catholics and thousands of other Christians in Lawrence.
Lent lasts until Easter, which is on April 12 this year.
