Pesky problems solved quickly
“The Experts’ Guide to Doing Things Faster,” edited by Samantha Ettus, contains 100 chapters of time-saving ideas, including “Discuss a Difficult Issue with Your Spouse,” “Find a Parking Spot” and “Getting Ready in the Morning.” The last has tips from Hannah Storm, morning anchor for ESPN’s “SportsCenter.” The mother of three gets up at 4 a.m. weekdays. Her advice:
• Map out the day. Storm creates a chart each night on which her kids’ hour-by-hour activities are listed, along with what needs to be taken to school and tasks that need completing. She sets the chart on the counter each morning for everyone to follow.
• The night before, make sure school bags are packed, kids’ clothes are set out and anything special for school is by the door.
• Check the weather at night and set out an appropriate outfit for yourself.
• Keep your bathroom and makeup area clutter-free, so everything you need is easily accessible.
• Set your coffeemaker to brew automatically a few minutes before you wake up.
• Set two alarm clocks — one electric, one battery-operated — to ensure you don’t oversleep.
