Proposed law would allow Kansans to receive wine shipments directly from wineries

? Kansans could have wine delivered directly to them by a winery under a bill considered by the Senate Federal and State Affairs Committee.

Currently, a winery can ship only to a retail liquor store. The person ordering the wine must go there and pick it up.

The bill considered Tuesday would apply mainly to people ordering over the Internet and would require the buyer to provide proof of being at least 21 years old. It also would require the person delivering the wine to make sure it’s accepted by someone who’s at least 21.

The committee didn’t act on the bill.

The bill limits wineries to shipping no more than 12 cases a wine a year to the same person.
