Visiting Nurses has need for free haircuts

Douglas County Visiting Nurses, Rehabilitation and Hospice Care is seeking barbers and/or hairstylists interested in volunteering occasional in-home haircuts to terminally ill patients. An application and interview required.

Immediate needs

The Centro Hispano Resource Center is seeking volunteers for a couple of events:

A Know Your Rights Forum, addressing rights with police, housing issues and immigration, will be conducted in Spanish at 2 p.m. Feb. 25 at St. John’s Catholic Church, 1234 Ky. Help is needed with child care, food service, setup and cleanup. You do not need to know Spanish to volunteer.

Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Days. The Centro Hispano and KU’s VITA program are again offering tax preparation services in Spanish. Bilingual volunteers are needed to help and interpret on three Saturday mornings, Feb. 28, March 7 and April 4. Volunteers do not need to commit to all three days.

l Watkins Community Museum of History, 1047 Mass., has multiple volunteer positions to be filled, including front door greeters and museum guides to work from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.

The museum is also in search of a research aide. Applicants should be at least a senior in high school and have an interest in history, photography or genealogy.

l Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community is looking for a few good volunteers:

Older men who could meet with a men’s group are sought to give talks on the world wars, planes or trains, gardening or other topics of interest;

People who would like to help with craft projects or a cooking class, help with manicures on Wednesdays and many other activities;

And people with musical talents of any kind, whether singing or playing a musical instrument.
