Windisch leads KU in first day of events

Several Kansas University track and field athletes competed Friday at the ISU Classic in Ames, Iowa, and the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

Sophomore Kara Windisch had the best KU finish at either meet, placing third in the women’s 5,000 meters at the ISU Classic after running a career-best time of 17:27.57. Senior Hayley Harbert was not far behind Windisch, finishing in fifth place in 17:33.66.

Also in Ames, junior Elizabeth Beisner finished sixth in the high jump with a leap of 5-31/4 feet. Freshman Kaleb Humphreys ran a season-best time in the 3,000 meters, clocking in at 8:43.52 to finish in eighth.

In the men’s 60-meter hurdles at the Tyson Invitational, freshmen Keith Hayes and Keyen Porter earned spots in Saturday’s consolation race, placing 16th and 21st, respectively. Hayes ran a time of 8.14, while Porter clocked 8.20.
