Police bring charges of attempted murder

February 14, 2009

Lawrence police arrested an 18-year-old Lawrence man at 3:45 p.m. Friday on charges of attempted second-degree murder.

Lawrence Police Sgt. Richard Nickell said that police arrested the man in connection with reports of shots fired last month along 23rd Street.

Nobody was injured in the incident.

Police arrested the man at his home in the 1600 block of West 20th Terrace.

He is also charged with aggravated assault, aggravated use of weapons, criminal threat and two counts of criminal damage to property.

“It’s been a dangerous deal with these shots getting fired around town,” he said. “We’ve been working on it and made this arrest.”

Bond was not set.

If you really want to know what happened read the Kansas City Star or the Topeka paper. For some unknown reason the Lawrence Journal World does not like reporting the local crime news.

Reporting to the public local criminal activity when the City is not run with a public transparent Government ...well its just too painful

i just wonder why people who commit the same type of crime. illegally firing a gun off in city limits or while driving down the highway and the DA decides "well this one we'll charge with 2 nd degree murder. the 3 criminals that robbed people at gun point and then fired off their gun at a vehichle while driving down k-10 we'll charge them with possession of a firearm and robbery" blah blah blah. why can't they just charge people with the same thing if they do they same dam* thing. Then there are felons all over lawrence that are being caught with a firearm and they don't get sent to the feds, most of them. There a the very few that do get sent to the feds. If the DA would do his job right these lawrence idiots would act right. All criminals should be treated equally and charged equally.
