Old Home Town - 100 years ago

February 14, 2009

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 14, 1909: “A group of people came in from Parsons today and plan to ask the city to give them a franchise for an electric line. They again represent Dayton, Ohio, financiers who have been seeking to set up the transit system. They say then ‘mean business’ and hope to leave with approval for the work. … Nearly everybody who bought Lincoln stamps at the post office yesterday, the first day of issue, are disappointed. They say the portrait looks more ike John Greenleaf Whittier than Abraham Lincoln. “
