Consultants to deliver ideas for bus system

Ideas on how to improve the city and Kansas University’s bus system should start becoming clear in about two weeks.

City commissioners were told Tuesday by consultants studying the issue that they plan to deliver their first set of recommendations by March 1 to the city and KU.

The upcoming recommendations likely won’t be sweeping in nature, but should produce ways to make some immediate improvements to current routes, said Mark Swope of the consulting firm Olsson Associates.

By January of 2010, the consultants will deliver a long list of recommendations on how to make the KU and city bus operations to work together as one system for riders.

The consultants are in town this week to talk with group stakeholders — ranging from riders to businesses — on how the system could work better.

"Sigmund- I am in this thing. When can we start."

Are you going to wear thongs, or just let it swing?

Hawkperched: you can listen to your Cowboy Poetry every month, second Saturday, in Dalhart. The Big Texan restaurant puts out quite a spread. No other gathering in the world like it, the locals say.

You won't miss the Lied Center.

Install dance poles and and cash bar in every bus, hire strippers, rename the system "Club EmpTy" and charge $8.00 cover.

Hawk, the meeting at the Dalhart Senior Center this week is entitled "Interesting Legal Facts and Fictions"

I am sure you could provide a few of your lectures to this group about how screwed up Lawrence is. Just read your posts. It would provide good entertainment to this group and remind them how lucky they are to be living in Dalhart.... no roundabouts, no neighborhood groups, no CDBG money committees, nobody named marjene at city hall, no university, no bus system, no downtown association, only a teeny tiny itty bitty chamber of commerce, no 2020 plan, no chancellor, no fountains, no homeless shelter, no industrial parks, no athletic field controversies, no SLT, no city parking garages.

Pure nirvana.

And tomorrow morning there will be the monthly Cowboy Poetry breakfast at The Big Texan, just in time for you to meet a new Valentine.

Dalhart badly needs Hawk's stellar expertise with mass transit. And sweeping.

Wonder how many transit consultants Lawrence has hired over the years? Are we ever going to learn anything?

Actually, the way to fix the system is to redesign it as a "grid" system.

I don't expect they'll actually do that, of course.

Hawk is probably right to point out that we won't see substantive change in the system, despite the tax increase.

Considering that the new sales tax that will finance any expansion of the bus system won't happen for a couple of months yet, what "sweeping change" do you expect, hawk?

The commissioners want to appear as professionals by hiring consultants. No mind how much money is wasted, has been wasted and will continue to be wasted.Auditor? Hello? Are you there?

Wow Lawrence can not have a an idea of it's own. I say we fire the city manager since he can not manage. We defer all decisions to the consultants we hire. So basicly we pay for the Managers and the Consultants to run the city.

yes, and it all translates as the article said "not sweeping changes"Watch for yet another study and experiment and "bus revisiTed"

of course they won't be sweeing in direction, that would be to much like being efficient. we did our computer model and took our money and you, the cityof Lawrence and KU get to do what you have been doing...status quo!
