Kansas City, Kan. ? Kansas City, Kan., police have released the name of a man shot and killed by an officer.

Police identified the man Wednesday as 25-year-old Ian Doherty, of Kansas City, Kan.

He was shot Tuesday afternoon in the hallway of an apartment building where police were investigating a burglary. Police did not say whether Doherty was involved in the burglary.

Police said the officer shot Doherty after getting into an altercation with him. The officer suffered minor injuries.

He is on paid leave while the shooting is investigated.
