Enrollment starts for Walk Kansas

It’s time to register for the 2009 Walk Kansas program, an eight-week physical activity program offered through Douglas County.

In 2008, there were 126 participating teams, including 756 individuals, participate in the Walk Kansas program in Douglas County.

From March 8 through May 2, teams of six will track minutes of physical activity and food choices. The program is sponsored by K-State Research and Extension-Douglas County in collaboration with the Douglas County Community Health Improvement Project (CHIP).

The physical activity goal for each team member is 2 1/2 hours (150 minutes) a week of aerobic activity, which is equal to 10 Walk Kansas miles, as well as muscle-strengthening activities twice a week. Participants will also have the opportunity to record daily fruit and vegetable consumption as well as how often they eat whole-grain products.

The individual participant fee is $7, plus $2 for each additional family member living in the same household. This fee covers program materials and weekly newsletters. An optional “Walk Kansas” T-shirt also can be purchased for $6-$8.
