Lawrence Mayor John Emick said he would not seek re-election to the City Commission. He had not completely recovered from recent surgery and said more surgery would be needed to correct a chest condition.

The people of Planned Parenthood began organizing here, with KU Chancellor and Mrs. Clarke Wescoe among the supporters.
