Luncheon to benefit heart association

Heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women.

One in three women has some form of cardiovascular disease, which kills one woman every minute.

At least 65 percent of people with diabetes die of some form of heart disease.

The American Heart Association is raising awareness of such statistics through its annual Lawrence fundraiser.

The Go Red For Women Luncheon will be from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 at the Lawrence Holidome. There will also be a silent auction. The keynote speaker is Dr. Stephanie Lawhorn, of Cardiovascular Consultants. There will be two educational sessions hosted by The Community Mercantile and Massage Envy.

Tickets are $50. The money raises funds for the American Heart Association’s education and research programs.

For more information or to reserve a ticket, call (913) 652-1911 by Friday. Also, Headlines Salon, 520 W. 23rd St., is having a cut-a-thon on Friday, which is National Wear Red Day. Hairstylists will be giving free haircuts with a $10 donation for the American Heart Association.
