18-year-old KU student arrested on suspicion of rape

Kansas University Public Safety officers arrested an 18-year-old male KU student Monday on a rape charge after a female acquaintance made an allegation during the weekend.

However, Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said Tuesday his office has asked for more information from investigators before making a decision about officially filing charges.

KU Public Safety Capt. Schuyler Bailey said the rape was alleged to have occurred between 1 a.m. and 1:30 a.m. Sunday in a dorm room at Oliver Hall. The alleged victim is not a KU student, Bailey said.

Officers located the suspect Monday, and after an interview he was booked into the Douglas County Jail Tuesday afternoon on a rape charge.

Branson said the suspect would be released, though, as prosecutors make a decision about officially filing charges.
