Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 2, 1909: “If Manhattan does not get what it wants from the Legislature this winter, it will not be because the students didn’t do their ‘durnedest’ to influence. Every single member of the senate has received five to a dozen letters from students and alumni of the agricultural school beseeching, imploring and commanding them to give the school what it asks for and not to give the ‘grasping’ university (of Kansas) its demands. There has been constant talk of merging of all or parts of the schools with KU’s Chancellor Frank Strong in the forefront. The response from Manhattan has been overwhelming and it remains to be seen if anything will be done soon in the way of a merger of any kind. “
