Inn combines Plaza luxury, New England ambiance

Southmoreland on the Plaza, an urban inn in Kansas City, Mo., is the subject of tonight’s new “Home and Away” episode.

Just in time to consider a romantic Valentine getaway, “Home and Away” host Lori Carson visits Southmoreland on the Plaza, an urban inn located in the heart of Kansas City.

The colonial revival-style inn was built in 1913 as a private residence before undergoing various incarnations. Mark and Nancy Miller, a married couple looking to shed their corporate life, bought the inn in 1998.

“Our location is what makes us unique,” says Nancy Miller of the inn’s prime spot, one and a half blocks from Country Club Plaza.

The urban locale is in contrast to the inn’s relaxing New England ambiance. Twelve unique guest rooms featuring private baths are named for various Kansas City notables with décor reflecting the personal history or era in which each lived.

The Carriage House Luxury Suite is a separate spacious cottage that offers a king-sized bed, a wood-burning stove and two-person Jacuzzi.

“Home and Away” premieres at 6:30 p.m. Mondays on Sunflower Broadband Channel 6.

Each show replays at 9:30 p.m. Monday; 9 a.m., 5:30 p.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday; 9:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. Wednesday; 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. Thursday; 10:30 a.m. Friday; 10 a.m. Saturday; and 9 p.m. Sunday.
