Douglas County prosecutors filed one charge of aggravated indecent liberties with a child against a 40-year-old Lawrence man on Friday.

Police said the incident involves unlawful sexual relations between a minor female and the suspect, who are known to each other. The crime occurred in July 2008 at a North Lawrence home, police said.

Officers arrested the man Thursday at his home in the 900 block of Rhode Island Street. He is also suspected of violating a protective order.

During his first appearance Friday, the suspect pleaded not guilty to the charge and was ordered to return to court Monday in front of Judge Jack Murphy, court records said. The man is in jail on $50,000 bond.
