Barbara Marx Hubbard, 53, author and futurist researcher, declared her candidacy for the Democratic vice presidential nomination at a gathering in Lawrence. She lived in Palo Alto, Calif., but came here to announce her candidacy in a visit to the Lawrence Holidome. She said she picked Lawrence as the site for her announcement after seeing the television film, “The Day After,” dealing with the aftermath of a nuclear holocaust.

Kansas University student leaders went to Topeka to help lobby the legislature for more funding for KU and higher education in the state.
