Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Feb. 1, 1909: “The expected pilgrimage of state legislators to Lawrence and the university for tours and funding discussions failed to materialize because of the huge wind storm of two nights ago. Only 12 members of the House and Senate came but they got a good tour from Chancellor Strong and left here with a lot of good will for Lawrence and the university. … The KU basketball team was stranded in Union, Neb., by the recent blizzard and spent the night on the train. … The surveying party of the Hugh Holmes electric line reached Baldwin yesterday and will make that town their headquarters for the coming week. They say they have made good progress with their work. … While most legislators are opposed to the notion of ‘one big university for Kansas,’ there are many proponents about eliminating duplication programs here and in Manhattan.”
