From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 29, 1909: “Recent disclosures that recent football players at Michigan were not even enrolled in school casts more bad light on coach Fielding Yost. He came to KU in 1899 with the reputation for turning out winning teams at any cost. Local men helped raise money and soon good players were coming here. Yost left here for Michigan after a 10-0 season in 1899 and so did a lot of his players. The next year under coach Charles Boynton, KU had a 2-5-2 record. Yost was the first coach to have an undefeated Kansas team but it would appear he did not follow all the rules — any more than he seems to be doing at Michigan. … Two deacons at the Warren Street Colored Baptist Church were fined $10 each today in court for disturbing religious services at the church. The pastor said they kept him from the pulpit and there was fear of physical violence.”
