Poet’s Showcase: ‘Holiday Poem, 2009’

Holiday words:

What can I say?

Peace on earth,

Not likely today.

Goodwill to men,

Oh where, oh when?

Global warming and

Health care reform.

Congress so petty,

Politics and wars.

Here are the cares

On the shoulders of all.

For those believing

The traditional line,

Easy to dine on

Slogans and winks.

But for those who think

We make our day,

What have we done

To offer and pray

For a peaceful life

And love to go round.

Sometimes we don’t measure

Up to the sounds

Of laughter and joy.

Yes, those are the words.

Laughter and joy

I got it! Oh boy,

Laughter and joy.

Laughter and joy.
