Wichita wants cap lifted on historic tax credits

? Kansas legislators will be asked next year to lift a cap on the amount of historic tax credits the state can grant.

Developers tap the credits to help finance conversions of old, unused structures into condos, hotels and office buildings.

In 2009, Kansas lawmakers capped the amount of historic tax credits that could be redeemed at $3.75 million in each of the next two years.

The move was intended to save money for the state, but it also brought many projects around Kansas to a halt.
