Online supporters earn $1,000 for Lawrence Humane Society

Online voters have chosen the Lawrence Humane Society as the best in Kansas, earning the shelter a $1,000 grant.

The Web site theanimalrescuesite.com gives away more than $100,000 annually to shelters that garner the most online votes, said Midge Grinstead, the shelter’s director.

She said she was pleased that the shelter was won “bragging rights” by placing first in the statewide competition.

The money will be placed in the shelter’s general fund, Grinstead said. As with other nonprofits, Grinstead said the shelter is experiencing a downturn in funds with the slumping economy.
