KU Credit Union pays public schools $2,500

KU Credit Union recently presented a check for $2,500 to the principals of Lawrence and Free State high schools, representing the share of proceeds to be donated through the credit union’s School Spirit debit card program.

The Lawrence school district receives a percentage of the interchange fee that the credit union collects from retailers who have collected payments from consumers using LHS and Free State debit cards , said Ginger Wehner, vice president for the credit union.

The district also receives a flat amount for each new checking account that includes a School Spirit debit card.

KU Credit Union has three branches in Lawrence: 3400 W. Sixth St., 1300 W. 23rd St., and 2221 W. 31st St.
