The Kansas basketball team under coach Ted Owens was off to a 5-1 start after a home court victory over SMU. The lone loss had been at Kentucky by a score of 115-85 in the second game of the season. Mainstays for the Jayhawks were Dave Robisch, Pierre Russell, Bud Stallworth, Bob Kivisto and Roger Brown.
