Franklin County reports armed theft of vehicle

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office reported Monday morning a situation involving the armed theft of a vehicle. According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, a 42-year-old man reported that about 10:30 a.m. he stopped to assist an unknown woman who was walking in the 1700 block of Kansas Highway 68. When she got into the man’s vehicle, she showed a gun and told him to drive to Interstate 35 and head toward Kansas City. At the intersection of Interstate 635 and State Avenue the suspect told the man to pull into a parking lot and get out of the vehicle. Once he was out, the woman left heading west on State Avenue. The vehicle was described as a gold-colored 1998 Ford Escort with a Kansas firefighter license tag. The victim was not injured during the incident.
