Kansas football loses commitment

December 11, 2009, 6:03 p.m. Updated December 12, 2009, 10:16 a.m.

Kansas University football commitment Jacoby Walker, a quarterback from Houston, Texas, has de-committed from KU and will now attend Utah, according to the Salt Lake (Utah) Tribune.

Walker, a three-star recruit according to, committed to the Jayhawks in June but reportedly began looking elsewhere after former KU coach Mark Mangino resigned following an internal university investigation into his treatment of players.

The player's decision, meanwhile, comes in the midst of Kansas' yet-to-be-completed search for a new head football coach.

Walker, who is set to graduate this winter, had planned to enroll at KU for the spring semester. But with the uncertainty surrounding the head coaching position, doing so would have represented a significant gamble.

Walker's de-commitment represents the first official defection since Mangino resigned last week.

Texas got mojo, Bama, & Gators got lots o mojo. Kansas....sorry no mojo in football, still just a wannabe. Hope they get there someday.

Would've eventually been converted to FS by Mangino. No biggie.

More from the 'Blame it on Lew' society.......give it a rest and do some homework. Jacoby had already re-opened his recruitment before Mangino got the ax, he was backin' out anyway.

That's fine with me.... tired of getting those 2 and 3 star players. If we get one of those guys we are looking at (hint we will need to wait until after the bowl season) the higher rated recruits will come.

Hey, jaywalker....I agree with you.... it's time to quit the bitching. You are either for KU or against KU. The line in the sand is drawn..... pick a side.

It's this kid's loss. KU plays in bigger conference with more exposure. Utah isn't exactly a step up. (Yes, I know KU sucks right now, but there is more upside here than at Utah. They can will all they want and still get left out in the cold ala Boise and TCU.)
