Style scout: Thomas Hardy

Thomas Hardy.

Thomas Hardy

Age: 24.
Sign: Libra.
Time in Lawrence: 6 years.
Hometown: Salina.
Occupation: Web content designer for the Natural History Museum.

What were you doing when scouted: Walking home from work.

How would you describe your style: Western meets geek.

Who are your fashion influences: For the Western element, “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” Also, when I was younger, I wasn’t fashionable at all and dressed kind of conservatively. I still draw on the simplicity of that. A monochromatic shirt, a good pair of jeans and Chucks make a good stand-by outfit.

What are your favorite fashion trends: I like ’70s vintage style and plaid. Recently I’ve been getting interested in vests. They make you look dapper and give dress shirts better fit and structure.

What are your least favorite fashion trends: The tourism T-shirts of wolves howling to the moon. Backward hats. One time at Henry’s, this guy wearing a backward hat spilled my full drink. Hemp necklaces.

What would you like to see more of in Lawrence: We don’t have a Mexican place that I really love. None of the restaurants downtown satisfy my need for melted cheese and sour cream.

What would you like to see less of in Lawrence: Traffic.

People say I look like: The guy from “The Count of Monte Cristo,” James Caviezel. Also, Jack from “Lost.”

Tell us a secret: I’m an animal geek. I love animal facts and can do animal impressions. My favorite fact is that the polyphemus moth eats an amount 86,000 times its body weight in the first 48 hours after it’s born.
