Plea deal made in sodomy case

A 38-year-old Lawrence man has pleaded guilty to attempted criminal sodomy for an incident involving a 15-year-old girl in July.

Jason Christopher Williams entered a plea to the charge last week in Douglas County District Court. Prosecutors also dismissed one count of criminal sodomy in exchange for the plea.

Prosecutors accused him of having inappropriate sexual relations with the girl at a south Lawrence home on July 17.

Douglas County District Attorney Charles Branson said Williams faces a 32-month sentence in this case and an 18-month sentence in a separate cocaine possession case. Under the plea agreement, he would serve at least 18 months in prison, prosecutors said.

“We reached this plea after consultation with the victim and her family. We are pleased that he will be held accountable for his acts,” Branson said.

Williams remains in custody in Douglas County Jail. District Judge Paula Martin will sentence him at 10 a.m. Feb. 18.
