From the Lawrence Daily World for Dec. 8, 1909: “The Merchants Association is planning a big Farmers Appreciation dinner of Dec. 18 to show appreciation for what the farmers do for us. … A number of Lawrence merchants attended the recent meeting of the state board of control in Dodge City and came back loaded with contracts for furnishing supplies to the state.”
