Staples, Minn. ? Cleanup crews have contained a large oil spill just south of Staples, and an environmental official says there was no damage to surrounding bodies of water.

Stephen Mikkelson of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency says about 210,000 gallons of crude oil oozed out of a pipeline by Friday morning.

He says crews had been working on the pipeline but failed to ensure the oil was properly secured overnight.

Contractors have recovered most of the crude. Cleanup of the contaminated land was expected to last at least through the weekend.

The pipeline is operated by Wichita, Kan.-based Koch Pipeline Co.

Company spokeswoman Katie Stavinoha told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that Koch would be conducting a full investigation as soon as the cleanup was completed.
