Ballock boosts Eudora

? Eudora senior Justin Ballock scored 41 points to help lead the Cardinals past Anderson County on Friday night.

Ballock scored 21 of Eudora’s 31 first-quarter points, including a thunderous dunk that brought the Eudora fans to their feet. Ballock made 15 field goals, two three-pointers, and hit nine of 10 from the free-throw line.

Ballock likely could have scored even more, but Eudora pulled its starters early in the fourth quarter.

Brian Katzfey scored 14, and Coulter Vestal added 10 for the Cardinals.

Eudora (1-0) will play Kansas City Ward in the opening round of the Eudora Invitational at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Eudora.

Richmond — A trio of Baldwin High post players scored the majority of Baldwin High’s points Friday night, and the Bulldogs beat Central Heights to begin the season with a victory.

Justin Vander Tuig led the Bulldogs with 19 points on the night. Zach Wright added 13 from the bench. Camdon Schwartz scored 11 for the Bulldogs. Baldwin will play Louisburg at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in Burlington in the first game of the Bulldog/Wildcat Classic.

Richmond — Three Baldwin High girls scored in double figures as the Bulldogs won their season opener. Baldwin also sank six three-pointers to beat Central Heights.

Ramie Burkhart led the team with 15 points. Allison Howard and Taylor Brown chipped in 14 and 11 points each. Baldwin will next play Louisburg at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Burlington in the first game of the Bulldog/Wildcat Classic.

Garnett — Evan Folks scored nine points, and Victoria Lehmann added eight more, and the Cardinals held off a late rally to beat Anderson County.

With Eudora clinging to three-point lead at the end of three quarters, the Cardinals went on a 7-0 run to start the third, as Folks and Lehmann scored off offensive rebounds, and Jennifer Bowser hit a three-pointer to push Eudora’s lead to 10.

Anderson County cut the lead to six, but Eudora made three of four free throws down the stretch to clinch the victory.

Eudora (1-0) will play Kansas City Piper in the opening round of the Paola Invitational at 5 p.m. Monday in Paola.
