Texas’ Brown AP Big 12 coach of the year

Texas quarterback Colt McCoy, right, celebrates a victory with head coach Mack Brown near the end of a 51-20 win against Kansas, Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, in Austin.

Texas coach Mack Brown has been named The Associated Press Big 12 Coach of the Year.

Brown, in his 12th season with the Longhorns, has guided Texas to a 12-0 record with a South division title and a berth in the Big 12 championship game Saturday night against Nebraska.

A win over the Cornhuskers likely puts Texas in the BCS championship game at the Rose Bowl on Jan. 7. Texas last won the Big 12 and national championships in 2005.

The AP award is voted on by 20 reporters who regularly cover the conference for newspapers in the league’s seven states.
