Lawrence police and Kansas University police apprehended one suspect Monday evening in connection with an automobile burglary on the KU campus.

According to KU police, a report came in at 7:50 p.m. of a theft in progress at the KU Park & Ride lot near the intersection of Clinton Parkway and Atchison Avenue. A backpack and a purse were stolen from a car parked in the lot.

Lawrence police and KU police worked together to set up a perimeter in the area of the crime. About one hour after the original call, a 43-year-old Lawrence man was apprehended in the area of Clinton Parkway and Kasold Drive.

The man was arrested on charges of burglary of a vehicle, theft, and obstruction of legal procedure.

Way to go! Glad to see that there is one less "thug" on the streets of Lawrence!

Very nice work by the police departments. Good for whoever placed the original call as well, a little involvement certainly helped out.

The law abiding citizens could help themselves out though by keeping their valuables out of sight as much as possible. This appears to be an obvious crime of convenience. The guy was probably just walking through the lot looking for stuff out in the open somewhere in the car.

What exactly does "obstruction of legal procedure" mean? Is this kind of like "mail fraud" in that it can be attached to almost anything?

Good work LPD and KUPD!

Obstruction of legal proceedure is anything a suspect does to interfere with the investigation of a crime....for example ....lying about your identity or running from the Police....

I was at Dunn Bros last night and saw what looked like 10 police cars racing that direction. I assumed it was a shootout or something.

It's nice to see the dilligence being applied to a simple auto burglary. Sometimes it seems that the petty crimes get overlooked.

First of all we were not all that far from my vehicle and one of the items were placed slightly under the seat and the other on top of it, just happy he didnt get away with anything...

@jayhawker33 - If that was your vehicle I saw who they caught. Trust me you could have been within feet of the car and this POS would have taken anything he could get his hands on. This guy has been doing this for years. He keeps getting caught and charged and actually spends time (a little) in jail, but nothing stops him. As soon as he is free, he goes right back to doing the same thing.

The only thing he and his brother (cousin??, I can't remember) know is ripping people off.
