Rural repavings to restrict traffic

Work starts Monday to repave portions of two rural roads at the southern edge of Lawrence.

These jobs are expected to restrict traffic to one lane during the day for at least the next six weeks:

• A three-mile stretch of County Road 1055, south of 31st Street.

The road — formally labeled East 1500 Road, and known by city residents as the southern extension of Haskell Avenue — will be repaved south to North 1000 Road, also known as Wells Overlook Road.

• A two-mile section of Wells Overlook Road, east from U.S. Highway 59.

Flaggers will direct traffic along both section of road during daylight working hours, and drivers should expect delays as work continues into mid-October, said Keith Browning, county engineer and director of public works.

Contractor for the $608,767 project is R.D. Johnson, of Lawrence.
