Happy birthday, Michael Jackson

E! devotes today to a celebration of Michael Jackson on what would have been his 51st birthday. Jackson-themed programming includes “Michael Jackson: True Hollywood Story” (6 a.m., 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m., E!) and “Forbes Presents Michael Jackson: Where’s My Money?” (9 a.m., 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 9 p.m., E!).

• TCM spends all day today with the films of Peter Sellers, including “After the Fox” (3:30 p.m., TCM), written by Neil Simon and directed by Vittorio De Sica, and director Stanley Kubrick’s 1962 adaptation of “Lolita” (7 p.m., TCM).

• Viewers looking for some relief from the blood-splattered crime labs of the gadgety “CSI” franchise could do much worse than “Inspector Lewis, Series II,” the British import featured on “Masterpiece Mystery!” (8 p.m., Sunday, PBS, check local listings).

The resolutely unglamorous Kevin Whately returns as a the title character, a low-key gumshoe operating amidst the groves of academe in Oxford. He rarely meets a professor who doesn’t seem slightly crazy, pompous, guilty or a combination of all three. His sidekick, detective Hathaway (Laurence Fox), tends to surprise condescending suspects with a knack for pulling the right quotation out of his hat.

In tonight’s series opener, “And the Moonbeams Kiss the Sea,” an unlikely pair of Shelly-besotted book lovers end up thoroughly dead. The killings allow our detectives to interact with some daft professors and stoned students, and affords Hathaway the chance to note that their novel case includes “a body in the library.”

“Mystery!” will air “Lewis” episodes through Oct. 18.

• Faced with writer’s block, Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) and her team take an unorthodox approach on “Mad Men” (9 p.m., AMC). Fans of the series will probably be talking about this scene and this episode on Monday.

While the seemingly dowdy Miss Olson appears to be entering the 1960s in a hurry, Don Draper (Jon Hamm) has recently brought an audacious decisiveness to matters personal and professional that borders on the ruthless. He’s become the most awe-inspiring macho character on television, leaving Jack Bauer in the dust. As some have already said, WWDDD? What would Don Draper Do?

Today’s highlights

• Jodie Foster and Peter Sarsgaard star in the 2005 nail-biter “Flightplan” (7 p.m., ABC).
