10:36 a.m. I'm here at Legislative Post Audit Committee awaiting release of report on whether post-secondary schools are spending their state funds efficiently.
Kansas University interim provost Danny Anderson is here.
Committee also will hear a report on issues related to children in need of care cases.
Higher ed sustained significant cuts this year, and because of continuing state budget problems, may face more cuts.

Good for you Governor. This long overdue conversation needs to take place. We have reached the point that all univesities cannot be all things to all people. We can't afford it and we do no favors to admitting all comers.

We've also reached the point in academic decline that demands higher standards. Good for the governor and others who promote higher standards for admission. It's appropriate to make college accessible to everyone regardless of gender, race, creed, etc. However, we should not seek to make college accessible to everyone regardless of ambition. Time to stop enabling our children to be slackers. Expect more and you will get more.

So, how do athletes figure into this? Will there be an exception based on talent or school need for a lineman or fullback? Will high school be pressured to manipulate records for athletes? If Honesty and integrity are actually to become of part of grading (ha ha). Will college sports suffer??
