Topeka ? The Department of Revenue says Kansans will have to get online next year to get tax instruction books.

Revenue Secretary Joan Wagnon says budget problems prompted the department to eliminate paper instruction books and dramatically reduce the number of blank tax forms it produces. She said the change should save the department about $120,000.

Wagnon says Kansans still will be able to call the revenue department or visit the free volunteer income tax preparation centers during tax season.

Wagnon says she’d like to require electronic tax filing as well, but can’t without a change in state law.

Most Kansans already file their taxes electronically, but 400,000 people still use paper forms.
