Journal-World named Newspaper of Year

Suburban Newspapers of America on Monday named the Lawrence Journal-World the Newspaper of the Year for 2009.

It is the third time in five years the newspaper has won first place in the contest that honors newspapers for general excellence, including news, writing and design, as well as advertising, marketing and press reproduction.

The Journal-World competed in the category of daily newspapers with a circulation under 30,000. The newspaper placed first in 2005 and 2007 and second in 2006.
