County emergency management honored

Douglas County Emergency Management has received an honorable mention for excellence in community planning.

The department received the award from the National Citizen Corps Achievement Award in the category of collaborative preparedness planning, which recognizes innovative practices that make communities prepared to handle any emergency situation.

The award was presented Aug. 11 at the 2009 National Conference on Community Preparedness in Arlington, Va. The Douglas County Citizen Corps Council includes representatives from governmental and nongovernmental agencies throughout the county.

The county’s emergency management department also recently received an award for outstanding achievement in planning, prevention and risk education at the 2009 Region VII Emergency Planning and Response Conference.
