Thirteen boys and six adult leaders from Boy Scout Troop 59, chartered to First Presbyterian Church, participated in a seven-day backpacking trip and other activities July 11-17 at the Double H Ranch High Adventure Base, near Datil, N.M. The group was comprised of two crews who backpacked 55 miles in the high desert wilderness, thus qualifying for the B.S.A. “50-miler” award. Activities included archery, search-and-rescue techniques, geo-caching, orienteering, rifle shooting, astronomy and conservation projects. Scout participants in crew one were Jeffrey Ahle, Patrick Fay, Harrison Helmick, Trevor Leslie, Scott Ragan and James Windholtz; adult leaders were Doug Fay, Tim Windholtz and Mark Workman. Scout participants in crew two were Henry Chapman, Matthew Day, Jonathan Gabler, Phillip Gabler, Derek Kappelman, Josh Seybert and John Wagner; adult leaders were Ed Day, Clay Kappelman and Bruce Wagner.
