Girl Scout camp to stop weeklong events

? The Girl Scouts of Northeast Kansas and Northwest Missouri says it is closing a popular camp because of slow Girl Scout cookie sales.

Camp Daisy Hindman — one of the organization’s oldest camps — is shutting down its weeklong residence camps because of rising maintenance costs. But the camp will remain open for other events, including service events and day programs.

Council officials say they may sell part of Camp Daisy, which is 20 minutes outside Topeka. They also plan to modernize the camp.

Camp Daisy last year served 31 of the 47 counties in the council. The 160-acre property was founded in 1929 by Mrs. W. C. “Daisy” Hindman. She wanted a camp easily accessible, yet far enough away to give girls a sense of adventure.
