Lawrence resident Stephanie Unekis is sponsoring a fun run to raise money in honor of her brother-in-law who was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma last year.
The “Life is a Uneek Gift” 5K run will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 on the Kansas River levee, across from the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St. The cost is $15, and all of the proceeds will go to the Midwest Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
The Midwest chapter helped David Unekis, who had chemotherapy, radiation therapy and a blood stem cell transplant. He is in remission and doing well.
Stephanie’s goal to raise at least $4,000 to participate in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training marathon on Nov. 15 in San Antonio.
Registration forms also can be picked up at the following sponsors: Lawrence Family Medicine and Obstetrics, 1220 Biltmore Drive; Performance Orthotics and Prosthetics, 1112 W. Sixth St.; Peak Performance Health Center, 1311 Wakarusa Drive; Neu Physical Therapy, 1305 Wakarusa Drive; and River Rock Family Dental, 1100 E. 23rd St.
