Lawrence resident having fun run in honor of brother-in-law

Lawrence resident Stephanie Unekis is sponsoring a fun run to raise money in honor of her brother-in-law who was diagnosed with mantle cell lymphoma last year.

The “Life is a Uneek Gift” 5K run will begin at 8 a.m. Sept. 19 on the Kansas River levee, across from the Lawrence Visitor Center, 402 N. Second St. The cost is $15, and all of the proceeds will go to the Midwest Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The Midwest chapter helped David Unekis, who had chemotherapy, radiation therapy and a blood stem cell transplant. He is in remission and doing well.

Stephanie’s goal to raise at least $4,000 to participate in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training marathon on Nov. 15 in San Antonio.
