Congressman Moore wins award for efforts in disaster preparedness and recovery

U.S. Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Kan., has received an award from ProtectingAmerica.org for his efforts in disaster preparedness and recovery.

The coalition of first responders, businesses, insurers and organizations dedicated to preparedness and recovery announced the 50 award recipients this week in honor of the fourth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on Aug. 29.

Moore’s House district includes eastern Lawrence. The organization recognized him for his “tireless efforts in preparing for and protecting families and communities from natural catastrophe.”

“Through the efforts of this year’s recipients, we are confident that America will move closer to the kind of comprehensive and integrated program that is needed to truly protect the six in 10 American families that live in areas that are vulnerable to massive hurricanes and earthquakes,” said James Lee Witt, a co-chairman of the organization and former director of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
