From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 16, 1909: Olin Bell, president of the Lawrence Merchants Assn., is forming an executive committee to help with advertising the community and assisting with other advertising schemes. He heads the Bell Bros. Music Co. and was recently elected to the new post. . . . Prof. C.E. McClung of the university has been offered a splendid position at the University of Illinois but has not decided if he will accept the offer. The position would pay him $1,500 more per year than he gets here and would give him a prominent place on the faculty. He is noted for his work in biological science and entomology and is one of the leaders of the KU faculty. . . . Officers of the quartermaster and commissary departments of the First Regiment of the Kansas National Guard left today for Fort Riley to get the camp ready for the annual training events. . . . The football guide is out and under the new rules a field goal will count for only three points rather than four. Coach Bert Kennedy of KU is sending copies of the rules to all the players believing they will be better-equipped to succeed with greater understanding of the regulations, new and old.
