Vaccines, flu clinic offered for seniors

Lawrence Senior Center will play host to an educational program about the seasonal flu vaccine and offer a flu clinic.

The program will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 1 at the center, 745 Vt.

Trista Voos, a pharmacist with Walgreens, will discuss the virus, how to prevent it, who should be immunized and why it is important to get immunized.

A free lunch will be served. To register, call 842-0543 by Aug. 28.

Flu shots will be offered during a clinic from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 8 at the center for anyone who is 50 or older. People should take their insurance cards to the clinic. For people without insurance, the cost is $25.

Seniors also are encouraged to take their immunization records so health professionals can offer advice on other possible vaccinations.

The educational program and clinic are sponsored by Walgreens, Kansas University School of Pharmacy and Douglas County Senior Center.
