100 years ago: Drunken plumber causes stir

From the Lawrence Daily World for Aug. 12, 1909: “A local plumber got drunk and beat up a local man and then fought officers when they came to arrest him. The attack victim seems to be recovering but the plumber will have trouble getting work, it seems. … The county attorney, Tom Harley, is holding an inquisition among west bottoms people to explain the laws against operating joints and to learn what ruses they may try to skirt the laws.”
